As part of the production for The Vortex Cinema, the team at Anotherworld VR undertook a large-scale, high-quality photogrammetry scan of a now-defunct silent-film theatre in Weißensee, Berlin. This process involved manually scanning the location, processing the photo data into high-fidelity 3D assets, and then refining these assets through manual retopology. The retopology process significantly reduced polygon counts to ensure optimal performance in real-time VR simulation while preserving visual quality.
I participated in the photo scanning process and led the team of artists through the retopology phase- coordinating and managing the workflow, assigning sections of the building to different artists, conducting quality assurance and performance checks, and assembling the final cohesive model. The result was a highly realistic digital environment for the upcoming game, as well as an accurate archival record of a historically and culturally significant Berlin landmark.
